When it comes to coffee grinders, you get what you pay for. The primary difference in quality and price has to do with how the beans get ground. Inexpensive machines use blades to repeatedly chop up the beans as opposed to actually grinding them. The problem with this type of grinder is that the blades cause friction and generate heat, which affects both the aroma and taste of the beans. These machines are also not capable of grinding beans to a consistently uniform size. Burr grinders on the other hand, perform very well at grinding beans uniformly without generating much heat.
