Cuisinart CBM-18

When it comes to coffee grinders, you get what you pay for. The primary difference in quality and price has to do with how the beans get ground. Inexpensive machines use blades to repeatedly chop up the beans as opposed to actually grinding them. The problem with this type of grinder is that the blades cause friction and generate heat, which affects both the aroma and taste of the beans. These machines are also not capable of grinding beans to a consistently uniform size. Burr grinders on the other hand, perform very well at grinding beans uniformly without generating much heat. However it does cost more to manufacture this type of coffee grinder.

Cuisinart Burr Grinder Review

This conical Burr Mill grinder is the best that Cuisinart has to offer. Hands down, the vast majority of owners of this Cuisinart coffee grinder have provided positive feedback. What people appreciate most is that this grinder is simple to use, requires little maintenance and looks gorgeous. In my research, I noticed that many people appreciated the look of the blue LCD display. The twist dial is simple to use and easy to read; great for people like me who need glasses.

What I like most is that this machine does exactly what it’s made to do; grind coffee beans to a uniform size in a consistent manner. Of course that’s what you expect a burr mill coffee grinder to do, and it does this admirably. Cuisinart has used a strong motor in this particular model, so you’ll probably find that it lasts you a long time.

I really appreciate having so many different grind levels available to choose from. Many owners have commented how simple it is to get the appropriate grind for their coffee machine; the grind selection and digital programming are very easy to master. One of the nicest things about this Cuisinart coffee grinder is that you won’t waste coffee figuring out how much beans to use. Just dial in the number of cups you want and it will grind the correct amount of coffee.

At only 8.4 x 12.1 x 7.6 inches, the CBM-18 is perfectly sized for your counter top. It has a nice size bean hopper on the top, so you only need to fill it up maybe once a week. You’ll be happy to know that many owners find this coffee grinder easy to maintain. Disassembling it is a snap, so keeping your coffee grinder clean won’t be so much of a chore.

While researching this Cuisinart coffee grinder, I came across a couple of minor complaints that you may wish to know about. A few owners found the CBM-18 to be a bit loud, though this is somewhat of an objective opinion. In reality all coffee grinders make noise, and personally I’d rather have one that provides well ground coffee. Some owners also mentioned that there is occasionally static cling in the ground coffee container. However, this is something that can be overcome quite easily by simply using a glass scoop, instead of a plastic one to measure.

In my opinion, the Cuisinart CBM-18 is a real nice coffee grinder.  It looks gorgeous, it’s very well-built and simple to use. What more could you ask for in a coffee grinder? When researching the best deals I came across some different prices for this coffee grinder. I’ve seen it listed for as much as $99.95 on some sites; actually this price was the one most often quoted. However Amazon regularly sells the Cuisinart CBM-18 Programmable Conical Burr Mill for less. They also provide free shipping, unlike some of the other stores.
