Coffee Doesn’t Affect Those With Heart Disease

Coffee NewsAccording to this article in Reuters, women with heart disease who drink a moderate amount of coffee daily tend to live as long as those who don’t drink the beverage. The results were recently reported in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Unfortunately it does nothing to clear the air over whether or not caffeine is a risk to those with cardiovascular problems. The study of 12,000 US nurses appears to be very comprehensive but I’m not sure it will do anything to persuade people one way or the other. I suspect those who still drink coffee will still do so, while those who avoid the beverage will continue to abstain. The full article is available here.

Cooking With Coffee

There’s a lot more you can do with coffee than just drinking it. Here’s a wonderful coffee recipe for this summers’ barbecue season. It’s a dry rub made from freshly ground coffee beans.

You can use the rub on any kind of meat; steak and pork come immediately to mind. Try it out and let me know what you think.

Brown Is The New Green

Coffee NewsDrink more coffee if your garden is looking a little lack luster this year. According to this article on newsleader.com, spent coffee grounds are a great source of natural plant food for gardens. Virginia State University concluded in a research study that used coffee grains contain a healthy amount of nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium, three key ingredient for plant growth. Contrary to common belief, coffee grounds are not too acidic for use in the garden as most of the acidity is removed during the brewing process. Just one more good reason to drink more coffee.
